  About Danny

Danny Kamerath

I graduated from East Texas State University with double majors in drawing and painting and advertising design. I was interested in sculpture as a major, but the advertising design department had the greatest teacher I have ever known. And there was a living to be made in design. Besides, I liked it. I worked for more than 20 years as a designer, art director and illustrator.

I make furniture rather than sculptures because of my background as a designer. I like the practical aspect of furniture. It has to fit into a set of parameters. For example, a chair seat that's 25 inches tall would be uncomfortable, but furniture doesn’t have to be conventional. I like to use unusual shapes and angles and still make something that serves as a functional piece of furniture.

I’m not a production woodworker or a custom furniture maker. I mostly make one-of-a-kind pieces. And I occasionally make small series of certain pieces using different woods or changing the design a bit.

I like running, hiking, climbing, flyfishing and traveling. Basically I like to do stuff outdoors. I also like long midnight strolls on the beach, and I think mean people suck.
