I graduated from East Texas State University with double
majors in drawing/painting and advertising design. I was interested
in sculpture as a major, but the advertising design department had the
greatest teacher I have ever known. And there was a living to be made
in design. Besides, I liked it. I worked for more than 20 years as a designer,
art director and illustrator.
I like the practical aspect of furniture. It has to fit into a set of parameters. For example, a chair seat 25 inches tall would be uncomfortable. But furniture doesn't have to be conventional. I like to use unusual shapes and angles and still make something that serves as a functional piece of furniture.
I'm not a production woodworker or a custom furniture maker. I mostly make one of a kind pieces but occasionally make small series using different woods or changing the design a bit.
I like running, hiking, climbing, fly fishing and traveling. Basically I like to do stuff outdoors.
